Warranty and Disclaimer Information. 19 December 2005

Some parts of the FXL DATA Loggers carry a limited 12 month warranty. Because they are designed to be used in the violent motor racing environment of Drag Racing, the warranty is naturally very limited. It does not include damage of any sort, ingress of any fluids (they are not waterproof), electric arc welding damage (they must be removed from the vehicle before any welding is done).

The logger may be damaged by being on when the battery is being charged. Always turn the logger off before charging the battery.

Always remove the downloading cable when battery charging on the vehicle is to be carried out. Damage has occurred to one customers desktop computer when the battery charger earthed itself out on the chassis of the race car when the downloading cable was fitted. This caused an earth loop via the 240 volt cables and the customer destroyed two computers motherboards because of this.

If any repairs need to be done to any of the FXL DATA products, then the customer must supply return postage.

Warranty repair is carried out at the expense of FXL DATA. Only two loggers have ever been repaired under warranty.

Connecting the battery back to front: All the FXL DATA loggers have a 3 amp 400 volt reverse polarity diode on the +12 volt supply line leading in to the logger. This should protect the logger from harm if the battery is connected back to front.

If the master earth on Pin 14 is connected to the positive supply, then the logger can be seriously damaged, even destroyed. This has happened to one unit. Another customer was lucky. It only destroyed some tantalum capacitors but what a mess it made.

Power Supply Voltage:The loggers are designed to work from 12 volts to 16 volts. The internal components can withstand +24 volts, but they may overheat and stop working after a few minutes. Any voltage over 24 volts will probably destroy the input filter capacitor. Any voltage over 37 volts will probably permanently damage or destroy the logger and any other components connected to it.

Pressure senders DO NOT have any warranty. You must understand some terminology before purchasing any pressure senders.

Rated Pressure: All pressure senders have a rated pressure and are known by that rating. For example a 100 psi pressure sender is rated at 100 psi. The logger will record any pressure up to the rated pressure accurately and repeatedly.

Proof Pressure: This is the pressure the transducer manufacturer declares that the pressure sender may be forced up to and still recover undamaged and still in calibration. The stainless steel transducers that FXL DATA Pty Ltd use with their products have a proof pressure of 3X for example a 100 psi sender should go to 300 psi and back without damage and still be calibrated. The logger will not accurately record any pressure over the rated pressure.

Burst Pressure: This is the pressure the transducer manufacturer believes that the sender will be destroyed at. The stainless steel transducers that FXL DATA Pty Ltd use with their products have a burst pressure of 5X for example a 100 psi sender will be destroyed at 500 psi or more.

The original design stainless steel senders are a highly accurate and rugged device. Each sender has an amplifier to convert the measured pressure to a voltage which the logger can record. The amplifiers are designed such that they will give a voltage from 0 to 4 volts to represent the calibrated pressure range and will over read but be not calibrated. For example a 100 psi sender will record from 0 to 100 psi correctly but will also record up to 125 psi but will be under reading and not calibrated.

New models of FXL data loggers are being designed to use 4 - 20 milliamp stainless steel senders. They are simply bought over the counter and are pre calibrated. But they are expensive too.

The VDO Marine two wire oil pressure senders are designed to measure engine oil pressure and transmission oil pressure only. If they are used to monitor methanlo fuel pressure or boost pressure, then they will usually fail in less than 12 months. If a VDO pressure sender is driven over its rated pressure, then it will probably be damaged and possibly destroyed.

The Warranty will be voided if the FXL DATA label stickers are removed. The warranty will be voided if any person attempts to work on the equipment. This is usually obvious because the stickers are damaged when the printed circuit board is removed. No Contingency Plan payout will be paid if the stickers are removed.
